Anxiety is a Fly

A Safe Place for Anxious Hearts

If anxiety were a person, I would name him Fly, and I wish he would just fly away and stop buzzing around me. Essentially, anxiety is a fly. I keep worrying about when he’ll appear next. The worst part is that he loves to bug me, pester me, and give me butterflies in my stomach. I don’t want to go through all of the possible problems before anything even happens. It gets exhausting. And many times, the issues never happen. I relive everything twice, only the first time is usually more difficult than the actual time I live through something. It’s frustrating.

I wish I could swat him away, but no matter how many times I try, he keeps coming back. It bothers me, but maybe Fly isn’t all that bad.

But in another way, I appreciate Fly. 🪰He tries so hard to give me a heads-up about any issue that could possibly happen. But he also makes me exhausted from swatting at him over and over again. Maybe one day he’ll let me live by just hanging out on the wall for a while. Yes, I know some danger could occur–anxiety likes to keep me in suspense. But I could be focusing so much more on the present without him constantly buzzing around me. Maybe one day I can be at peace.

Some Topics for Discussion

This blog is meant to be a springboard for discussions on some tough topics. It’s so easy to feel alone, but you’re not!

That hurt you feel? Someone knows it, too.

It doesn’t mean your hurt is less important. It means that you’ve got someone out there that is bound to understand. At least a little.

Things can get tricky. Not all people are kind. But most are just trying to survive.

It’s important to honor the nuances in what someone else is going through, too. Your experience is your own.

It’s complicated, yes.

I’m happy to encourage others to share their stories. Like on any other platform, vulnerability comes with risks. Don’t share unless you feel comfortable. You can count on me in the meantime to put it all out there. 😅

How do you view anxiety? Is it a nuisance, a pain, a little relentless, constant buzzing you don’t need? Or do you view it more positively (good for you, Inside Out fan!)? Let me know!
